RAPAPORT... PRESS RELEASE: New York, July 21, 2011 - The Rapaport International Diamond Conference (IDC) will be held on Monday, September 12, 2011 at The New York Times Center from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  The focus of this year’s conference will be “The Market for Luxury Jewelry” and “Diamonds and Social Responsibility – Real Solutions to Real Problems.”

The morning session will feature Sotheby's Chairman of North and South America  Lisa Hubbard and Senior Specialist Gary Schuler who will speak about the growing importance of the large stone and international market. Pam Danziger, President of Unity Marketing, will present on changing consumer values and new marketing strategies. The morning session will conclude with a panel discussion on design, highlighting the latest and upcoming jewelry trends. Participating on the panel will be Red Carpet commentator and stylist Michael O'Connor, Fragments designer jewelry showroom and retail store owner Janet Goldman, New York jewelry designers Nina Runsdorf and Laura Aman, designer Kerri Halpern of Madstone and moderator Amber Michelle, Editor-in-Chief of the Rapaport Magazine.

The afternoon session will discuss ethical sourcing, one of the greatest challenges facing the diamond and jewelry industry. We will discuss real and practical solutions to the problem of human rights violations in the jewelry supply chain and ongoing efforts to create legitimate and ethical supply chains. We will discuss the establishment and implementation of industry-wide ethical standards, source certification and how government and industry can work together to address the needs of the artisanal mining sector.

The Rapaport Conference is free and open to all, although participants are being asked to make a voluntary contribution of $50 or more to the Jewelers for Children charity. The conference will also be broadcast live via www.diamonds.net/idc and online viewers will be able to participate in Q/A sessions via email.
